Meet Your Kanga Host

Zakaria’s and Suryani’s family is your main host, but as is the case in Kanga Homestays, you are not connected with just one family, but to a whole community, village, extended family, you name it. After all, Zakaria has eight siblings, and everyone in the neighbourhood is happy to offer you tea, coffee, or a snack.

Suryani is a skilled tailor, and the family sells curtains, makes school uniforms, and dresses. Their son Fairuz attends a nearby school, and his grandmother still lends a helping hand wherever needed.

Your Accommodation

You might find yourself chilling amongst a bunch of locals on a Berugak, an open pavilion, eating rambutan and ketupat, because this is what a local apero looks like.

Back in the hosts’ living room, you will sit on the carpet and enjoy a varied meal. How does tempeh goreng, sate Rembiga, a moringa-eggplant curry, or pakis fern sound? Kanga’s Local Coordinators, Faiz and Nufa, will join in as well, for a little bite before the activities that follow.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Your adventure will be diverse and unique. Whether you experience a local music performance, learn some weaving techniques, or even witness a peresean, a traditional stick fight, during your stay in Kotaraja, you’ll have a blast!

On the Panorama Walk through the indescribable landscape, it might not be just about watching: step in and help plant rice seedlings, cut leaves, or remove the husks from rice grains.

Did you know that when your toenails get dirty from working in the fields, you can clean them with lime water? Just squeeze a lime and rub it on your toes.
