Meet Your Kanga Host

Of course, this naturally flows into preparing a local meal with the hosts, marking the first chapter of your journey into organic, earthbound wisdom. Mother Kanthi will guide you, and before long, you’ll be mastering the skills of a traditional Sri Lankan cook. Together with Father Gnapala and their son Kavindu, she lives in an idyllic home surrounded by abundant nature, not far from Neluwa. Both parents are tea and rice farmers, while Kavindu has found his passion as an automotive and motorcycle mechanic.

Your Accommodation

During your stay, a cosy guest room awaits, and you will be welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. The hosts love to tell the story of guests who once planted a tiny tea seedling. Unexpectedly, it grew taller and stronger than any other plant in the tea plantation. Today, they still collect leaves from that very bush and brew tea from it. It’s their way of showing how much they value their guests and the connections that grow along the way.

Flavours, Fresh Finds and Local Adventures

Have you met Lovi yet, the fruit with the tart, acidic taste? The ultimate challenge is biting into it without making a face, but the flavour and texture are so fascinating that you can’t stop nibbling.

On a gentle stroll, you can take a bath in the nearby stream, handpick tea leaves, and the locals are happy to fetch a jackfruit from the tree or a king coconut from the palm right before your eyes.

Kavindu’s Tuk Tuk (in Sri Lanka, they call it a three-wheeler) might take you to nearby places, and Local Coordinator Anil, the main host of the other Kanga Homestay in Neluwa, the Bird’s Nest, will open up opportunities to explore even more local sites.
