Kanga Expands to Sri Lanka and Indonesia: New Homestays, Same Soul

Group of adults and children posing on a red porch outside a white house, some barefoot, smiling at the camera in a tropical setting.

After building genuine connections between travellers and local families in Tanzania, we are ready to introduce this concept in two new corners of the world: Indonesia and Sri Lanka.

The Same Spirit in New Places

From the very beginning, Kanga Homestay has been about one thing: real. Real families. Real meals. Real conversations that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.

That hasn’t changed. It never will.

When we started looking beyond Tanzania, we didn’t search for destinations. We searched for people. Families who open their doors not as a transaction, but as a genuine act of welcome. And we found them.

Every single family hosting with us in Indonesia and Sri Lanka has been visited personally. We sat at their tables, walked through their neighbourhoods, and listened to their stories. Only then did we say yes.

Indonesia: 3 Homestays Across Bali and Lombok

Indonesia is a country of extraordinary depth, where ancient traditions live comfortably alongside everyday life. We are launching with two homestays on Bali and one on the island of Lombok. Together, these three locations provide very different windows into Indonesian culture.

Bali offers something far beyond its famous temples and rice terraces. Stay with a local family and discover the rituals, rhythms, and warmth that most travellers never get close to. On Lombok, a quieter, less-travelled island, you’ll find a pace of life that feels immediately grounding.

Three homestays. Three families. Three stories worth living.

Sri Lanka: 3 Homestays on the Pearl of the Indian Ocean

Sri Lanka has a way of surprising you. Its cultural richness, its landscapes, its cuisine, and above all its people make every moment feel unique and unforgettable.

We are opening three homestays across Sri Lanka, each offering a different perspective on local life. Two are located in Neluwa in the Galle District, a small town surrounded by lush greenery and shaped by the rhythms of everyday life, while the third lies between Sigiriya and Anuradhapura, surrounded by the island’s rich history and landscapes. Wherever you find yourself, the experience will be the same at its core: you are a guest, not a tourist.
