Explore where the journey began with Dominik, founder of Kanga Homestay:
«During a safari deep in the Okavango Delta, I was struck by a vision!
I was on a fast-paced overland tour from Cape Town to Dar es Salaam, encountering breathtaking sights along the way. The journey was filled with intense experiences: jaw-dropping canyons, an astonishing desert excursion, and the mighty Victoria Falls awaiting us further along.
On one particularly memorable day, we witnessed lions mating, plucked sage to brew tea later at the bush camp, and came across a dead hippopotamus on the way back. Despite all these impressions, I reflected on the journey and felt that something was missing. I found myself pondering deeply. And in a moment of clarity, a new idea was born.
On the tour, we were never able to connect with the local people in a meaningful way, as we had been traveling in a bubble. And I wanted to bring to life what I had missed on this trip: taking real time for genuine exchange, building true connections, engaging deeply with local culture and learning something new along the way.
Back in Switzerland, I found myself at a crossroads. Do I really want to pursue this idea? I took time to reflect and make a decision. It just felt right. And once I had made up my mind, I never questioned it again. I went ahead and started the project, and a few months later, I was back in Tanzania.»
