Are you ready to enrich your soul and create unforgettable memories?
Every Kanga Homestay is one-of-a-kind, reflecting diverse lifestyles, cultures, and religions.
At Kanga Homestay, we are deeply connected with each of our hosts and have personally visited and stayed in their homes. We maintain constant, direct communication with each individual host to ensure a genuine experience for our guests.
Alongside our hosts, we collaborate with Local Coordinators and Regional Managers. They manage your booking and arrange transportation if requested. The Local Coordinators at the homestays ensure a smooth arrival and help you feel comfortable throughout your stay. If needed, they also assist as translators and address any queries or concerns that may arise.
We offer two categories of homestays: Village Stays and Comfort Stays.
Village Stays offer a simple, authentic experience with basic facilities. These homestays provide essentials such as beds, mattresses, sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, and, in most cases, mosquito nets/sprays. Bucket showers and squat toilets are the standard. Hot water for a shower is always available; just ask your host. This simplicity is an integral part of the journey, giving you a true taste of local life.
Comfort Stays offer more advanced facilities, though they are not comparable to hotels. You may still find bucket showers or squat toilets, but overall, the environment provides a higher level of comfort and convenience.
Both categories offer a rich cultural immersion, allowing you to connect with local traditions and lifestyles. Kanga Homestay isn’t about the most convenient amenities; it’s about genuine encounters and embracing the essence of local culture.
During your stay in a Kanga Homestay, all meals are included
The variety of food depends on seasons and what is available from the hosts’ fields and the nearby markets. Mealtime might vary according to habits and daily program.
During the booking process, you will have the option to mention your dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian, non-vegetarian) and any allergies in a comment field.
The hosts ensure that guests have access to safe drinking water. This can be achieved through methods such as boiling or filtering the water. If there is any uncertainty regarding water safety, visitors should request the host to boil the water again for added assurance. Guests can also purchase bottled water near any homestay. Some hosts provide water bottles.
During your stay at a Kanga Homestay, get ready for an exciting array of activities! From cooking traditional dishes and farming, to crafting and dancing. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.
You can explore the available activities listed in each homestay’s profile and discuss your interests with your host or Local Coordinator upon arrival. While we can’t guarantee specific activities – since they depend on the season, weather, and availability of skilled locals – the longer you stay, the more chances you’ll have to dive into these enriching experiences.
Many activities are included in your stay, but some may be subject to additional costs, which must be paid in cash on-site. Approximate costs for these excluded activities are listed in the homestay description. These costs are to be paid on-site in cash and usually in the local currency by the guests.
The language skills of the hosts are described in detail in their profiles. English skills among hosts varies significantly; however, each homestay has a Local Coordinator who speaks English and can assist with communication between visitors and hosts when needed.
Staying with our hosts offers a fantastic opportunity for a language exchange. Don’t miss the chance to learn a few new words in the local language!
We strongly recommend that guests get a local SIM card upon arrival in the country. Usually, our Local Coordinators and Regional Managers communicate through WhatsApp, as it is the most widely used form of communication.
Bring your kids along for an unforgettable adventure! Children are natural explorers and will quickly adapt to their new surroundings, making friends with local children even without sharing a common language – after all, play is a universal language!
At Kanga Homestay, we warmly welcome young travelers. Kids aged 5 to 12 enjoy a special half-price rate, while little ones under 5 can stay for free if they sleep in the same bed as their accompanying person. From the age of 13, the full rate applies. If you are traveling with children under the age of 5, please mention it in the notes field during check-out.
Kanga Homestays have a minimum stay of two nights, while most can be booked for up to six nights through our website. For longer stays, feel free to reach out via our contact form.
We highly recommend staying at least three nights to truly enjoy the rich cultural immersion and participate in all the exciting activities!

Alternatively, you can choose to travel independently to your homestay. Taking a Dala Dala, a public mini-bus, or a Boda Boda, a motorbike taxi, is an exciting way to experience local life along the way. Independent arrival is only recommended if you’re traveling light.

During the booking process, guests have the option to upload a copy of their passports. If you prefer to skip this step, no worries! Just send copies via email or WhatsApp at least 20 days before your stay begins. For bookings made within 20 days, it must be provided during the booking process or shortly thereafter.
If you encounter any issues during your stay, we’re here to help! Please reach out to your Local Coordinator first, and then the Regional Manager if needed. If the matter is still unresolved, feel free to contact Kanga Homestay at hello@kangahomestay.com.
Our hosts have access to emergency contacts, including healthcare facilities, police, and fire services, ensuring your safety during your stay.
We recommend bringing a small first-aid kit when visiting a Kanga Homestay. It’s advisable to include probiotics as a preventive measure, especially in case you encounter any digestive issues. Additionally, consider packing anti-diarrhea medicine and other helpful remedies for any stomach discomfort.
When planning your trip, it’s essential to take care of your entry visas and vaccinations. Guests are responsible for obtaining their own visas and ensuring they are up to date on recommended vaccinations.
We also recommend that all guests arrange travel insurance for peace of mind during their journey. This coverage can help with unexpected medical emergencies and other unforeseen events.
Remember, you’ll be visiting homestays at your own risk, so being prepared is key!
